The town of Banská Bystrica and the region of Banská Bystrica decided to enter the processing of the candidacy profile of the town for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2013 on the basis of the wide spectrum of possibilities the project offers. One of the possibilities, on a basic level, is the renewal of communication through all layers of cultural background and the development of a new communication strategy for the town and the region.

This level also enables development of a systematic strategy of town and regional development with a vision into future years. The basis of the project is the development of the culture concept on a European level, which is a challenge for the new member states including Slovakia. The goal of the project is the chance to show Europe the added value of the town and the region. Moreover, by getting to know European culture we can definitely become a natural part of it.
