Cordoba (2016) - Financial Information

The productive economy of the province of Cordoba is based mainly on service industries. Trade, business services, transport and catering industries are the pillars of the Cordoban economy.

The cultural wealth of Cordoba and its province is well-known, the result of a past when the Romans, Arabs, Jews and Christians ruled these lands. This rich heritage, with the stunning Mosque as its shining example and the no less important remains of the palace-city of Medina Azahara, has given rise to a varied, high-quality leisure and tourism industry which receives millions of visitors each year and generates exciting business opportunities.

Coming a close second in importance in the production system are agriculture, cattle rearing and the food processing industry. In addition, the manufacturing and extractive industries play a major part in the economy of the province, followed by the construction industry.

The University of Cordoba occupies the top positions in the quality surveys made of the studies at Spanish universities. In particular, the College of Agricultural Engineering, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and ETEA Business School (a University Institution run by the Society of Jesus) enjoy great prestige on a national level.

Cordoba, therefore, has the strategic advantage of having exceptionally well-trained human resources in areas such as agro-food businesses, veterinary science or business administration. It is a veritable hotbed of professionals, highly trained and prepared for the future.

Tourism

The city has set up a series of management policies to deal with tourism, the result of collaboration between institutions and business organizations in the city, the most notable of which is the Cordoba Tourist Board. Among its most prominent functions is to promote activities to increase tourism in the city, as well as offering a wide range of information on tourism, accommodation, bookings, and so on.

The Provincial Tourist Board is responsible for promoting tourism in the province of Cordoba, and it is a department of the Diputación de Córdoba (Provincial Government). Its functions and objectives are to promote and encourage tourism in the towns in the province of Cordoba.

Cordoba has an important infrastructure of hotels of all categories and an extensive network of catering establishments.

With the launching of the brand name Cordoba City of Encounters, a professional manual for the conduct of conferences and meetings in the city was established which covers all the establishments and businesses related to this sector.
