The project entitled "Košice - Candidate for the European Capital of Culture 2013" has already established some firm ground to build on. The project campaign is to be run under the banner rendering the message: INTERFACE - Point of Connection. The idea behind this project intends to pinpoint the communication conducted between the city and its citizens, on the one hand, i.e. the inward communication, and, on the other hand, the communication aimed outwards, at the visitors to the city and the entire European Union. The project plans to provide every person interested in culture and cultural life of this city with some space to transform the city, to make the city nicer, more cultural. The year 2013 seems a distant future, indeed, yet the city already now wishes to attract people´s attention and is holding a variety of supporting events in the town centre as well as the remote housing districts, which are to make the city-life more colourful. In addition to the cultural events, the project Košice - European Capital of Culture 2013 (ECC 2013) also comprises large investment plans. The intention is to raise the standard of the insufficient cultural infrastructure as it is now in Košice. This plan, from which the city should most benefit, also entails transformation of some functionless buildings and premises into centres of culture. The great attention is, obviously, going to be paid to the traditional sites of culture and education, such as St Elizabeth´s Cathedral, Old Synagogue, and the House of Art. Although the ECC 2013 project is already gaining interest of the public, it is still not possible to reveal everything at the moment. The project is now in the phase of competition and this is the reason why Košice needs to keep some information untold. All the inside info will be disclosed after the final selection of the town having the best and most successful project. And this will first come about in winter 2007, in the competition round one, or as late as in the second round of the contest to take place in autumn 2008. |
