The project budget covers the years 2009 to 2014. The largest cost item covers cultural events for which the resources earmarked from the budget amount to Euro 31.5 million. Historically speaking, the average costs the candidate cities spent on the ECOC programme amounted to Euro 40 million. The contribution of the national governments in the countries of the candidate cities covered 30-50 % of the funding. The cultural programme shall be co-financed by the city (30%), the Government of the Slovak Republic (30%), Košice Self-governing Region (KSGR) (25%), sponsors (10%) and towns in the Košice region (5%). The costs of the investments projects amount to Euro 45.4 million. The investment plans of the projects also consider reconstruction, or development of historic landmarks, roads, pavements, public squares and greenery, if appropriate. Almost 80% of the funding of the investment projects shall be provided from the structural funds.
