The 9th General Assembly of the European Cultural Parliament was held in Athens from the 16^th to the 19^th of September 2010, upon invitation of The Hellenic Parliament and the City of Athens and was hosted in “Technopolis”.  The Conference opening was greeted by the Speaker of the House, the Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis and the Mayor of Athens.

Following the opening ceremony, more than 300 guest participants, all distinguished cultural actors from 40 European countries, visited the Traveling Exhibition of the Documentation Centre on Capitals of Culture entitled “25 Years of Cultural Capitals”.  That was the first time the exhibition was hosted in Athens, after having traveled to Brussels, where it was inaugurated by Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Culture and to Zaragoza, candidate European Capital of Culture for 2016. Its journey continues aiming to promote the 25 years of the most successful European Union cultural institution through the achievements of 60 Capitals of Culture.
