If there presently exists in Europe a way for a town to change how it is viewed, the thinking of its people, and their attitude towards culture, it most certainly must be the project “European Capital of Culture”. The city of Nitra fully realizes this and is taking full advantage of this opportunity to present its application for this competition. Even during the first phase of the presentations there was a significant effort to ensure Nitra’s advance to the finals.

The European City of Culture project is part of the town’s philosophy, which has the goal of creating conditions for the development of culture as a “quality product”, which in the end will help to strengthen everything connected with the tourist industry. It will also help to make the region more attractive and bring significant other gains in a variety of different areas. The project is as all-inclusive that it intertwines such other important town documents and plans as: territorial plan, economic and social development and budget.
