From bases in Amsterdam, Belgrade, Berlin, Brussels, Porto and Tbilisi the civil society initiative "A Soul for Europe" is building an international network and seeking to influence cities and regions, EU member countries, the worlds of culture and business, and European policy-makers.  The initiative's work focuses on the following areas:

In the process of European integration, Europe's cultural strengths must be harnessed more efficiently than in the past for:

• the European idea. What are the roots and the basic ideas underlying Europe's development and which objectives do we hope to achieve?

• the internal structure of Europe, which is organised in accordance with the principles of democracy, the rule of law and peaceful co-existence among Europeans.

• Europe's role in the world, as defined by its foreign policy. What experiences and competencies can Europe draw upon to make its contribution to the world?

• the structural and promotional policies through which Europe supports the development of its regions.

All fields of policy beyond the cultural sector, from social to foreign affairs, must develop a cultural component. Culture is not something for cultural players alone.
