Reykjavik (2000) - The Organisation

Reykjavik 2000 was an independent office, set up by the City Council of Reykjavik. The office’s steering body was a seven-member Board of Directors:
•1 Chairman of the Board, appointed by the City Council: President of the University of Iceland
•2 members representing the City Council
•1 member representing the Ministry of Culture and Education
•1 member representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
•1 member representing the Association of Icelandic Artists

In addition, there was a Finance and Sponsorship Committee, a Programme Committee and an Honorary Council.
The Finance and Sponsorship Committee was composed of 6 members, most of whom represented the private sector:
Chairman: President of a holding company
•1 member: Chairman of the Board of Reykjavik 2000
•2 members: bank directors
•1 member selected from the Board of Reykjavik 2000 (director of a factory manufacturing freezing systems)
•1 member: director of a soft drink company

The Programme Committee consisted of:
•1 representative of the Artists Union
•2 representatives of the City Council

The members of the Honorary Council were as follows:
President: the Mayor of Reykjavik; the Prime Minister of Iceland; the former President of Iceland; the Minister of Culture and Education; musicians; painters; ballet dancers.
