CULTURE live is the title as well as the ambition of Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009.

The essence of the project is creation. Creation that is not abstract, not someone else‘s, not out of reach, but creation that is personalized, yours, mine, theirs. Authentic creation of the New:  relationships between people, ties between organisations, countries and cities, the liberation of inner power, the bringing of ideas down to earth.

The project doesn‘t only refer to creation, it realistically brings creativity into all spheres of life. The people who work on this project are living culture which is simmering with energy and stating that culture is alive. Just as if a group of people, fired up about the same idea, were to join hands and form a single current of energy, the Culture live logo symbolizes a molecule that has been made by a spark of creativity. The word culture splits into its basic elements, letters, which separate and join, forming new meanings among the various European languages.

The word live in music depicts a work which is performed in front of a live audience. What is live both refreshes and creates hope, it speaks not of distant horizons but of this instant. Culture live is a creative expanse which is revealed at this moment, a source of innovation, unexpected solutions in art, culture, education and business which are born here and now.

We are working for the vitality of the most important asset of the city:  its people, their wisdom, interaction, their dreams, imagination, creativity and happiness. Culture live is sincerely open to each and every person who is a constant creator of Life.
